That's impressive. I know for a fact I'm not strong enough to do that...

Let’s run him out of town like Patrick Roy. I’m going to cheer him ironically the next time I’m at the game.I had the same conversation with a friend. The answer is...maybe. Which is what should have been considered from the beginning, not committing a career to a rookie. The current situation shouldn't be a surprise to anyone but it seems to be. My buddy summed it up pretty well: "Good, but not elite." Which is fair.I had a thought last night about Matt Murray: is he the new Cam Ward? discuss......

Mackey believes that a Sprong trade is inevitable, possibly happening as soon as Saturday. He was on the radio so I couldn't tell if he was actively crying.

While it wouldn't surprise me if Sprong was traded, Mackey also pumped the tires on trading Kessel for 2 offseasons.

If he does get traded, at least we waited until his value was as low as possible.
Simon-Crosby-Rust
Hagelin-Malkin-Hornqvist
Guentzel-Sheahan-Kessel
Wilson-Cullen-ZAR (Sprong)
Johnson-Letang
Dumoulin-Ruhwedel (Oleksiak)
Maatta-Riikola
That's a losing lineup if I've ever seen one.

I would welcome a Sprong trade if it meant shutting everyone up that thinks he can be an impactful national leaguer

I honestly don’t even care what happens with him at this point. He has a terrific shot, but that means nothing if he can’t do anything to get/keep the puck or make sure he’s in the right position.

Shame that a 21 year old is done developing with 1 AHL season, and 30 NHL games...

He’s just never shown anything to me. The coaching staff hasn’t exactly shown confidence in him, so if we can move him for a piece that may help us, so be it.

Maybe he can learn how to be an effective player, but he hasn't shown it here. You can't just keep banging your head against a wall and hope he suddenly gets it.
If trading him serves as a wake up call, then so be it. He could very well just be the next Yakupov. All talent, no work ethic or sense.

I mean, a two time cup champ coach doesn’t play him. A three time cup champ gm is testing his value. He’s failed MY eye test. What else do you want?!

He might have a plus shot, but he doesn’t get anywhere near a danger zone as far as I’m concerned.

The question is, what is his realistic value right now?

The same coach and gm that thought bringing in JMFJ was a good idea. Let's not act like they're infallible. What I want is him to get a shot playing with a capable playmaking center for more than 2 shifts.I mean, a two time cup champ coach doesn’t play him. A three time cup champ gm is testing his value. A player that is having similar struggles that is either a LW or a defenseman. Can't imagine it is much. The question is, what is his realistic value right now?
mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness
But why? Why should he get that opportunity over players who have earned the look through hard work?

Because the Pens needs scoring help and other people in the top 6 aren't providing that.

So you're going to put a guy up there who won't even try to win a puck battle and expect him to suddenly contribute?
