So the Offensive Lines Will Be???

Kevin Porter is a plug that can fill either role. We'll see what happens, there's lots of time to find or acquire a fourth line player in this offseason certainly...

Malkin and hornqvist on the ice together isn't any less of a disaster than it was a day ago. Hope we don't see that out of the gate.
Where did this come from? While Malkin hasnt played with Hornqvist for the time that Sid has, Hornqvist had put up better goal numbers with Malkin.

Patric Hornqvist Goals For per 60
With Crosby 3.61
With Malkin 4.05

Not sure why we are discussing moving Hornqvist or Kessel in their off wing. One of them is playing with Malkin. End of discussion.

Kessel please

...though on paper that doesn't make total sense. Kessel and Sid can jet up the ice while malkin and horny are more compatible pace-wise. But they looked brutal together last year. Apparently there are stats that refute that. But the eyeball test was bad.

We're they both healthy? Who was on the LW? That matters. I'd give it a shot in camp just because Perron-Sid-Kessel would be amazing.

Taking that as true I find it amazing. Hornqvist and Malkin looked like lost sheep out there, a train wreck... odd.

I find it amazing, too. Looking over Hornqvist's scoring log for the 2014-15 season, he and Crosby were involved in 27 goals last season; he and Malkin were involved in 15 goals last season; and all three were involved in just 3 goals. So while GF/60 tells one story, the eye test AND point production tell a different one. Hornqvist, himself, was twice as productive with Crosby as he was with Malkin.

But he played probably twice as much with Sid, right?

Is that counting or not counting powerplay goals/stats?

That's all goals. Hornqvist + Crosby combined for 18 goals at even strength while Hornqvist + Malkin combined for only 7. All goals that involved the three of them came on the PP.

that doesn't seem like a ridiculous stat. We went with a stretch of a billion games with only one goal per and Horny played with Sid that entire time.

Here's a 5-on-5 comparison...

w/ Crosby - 18 points, 531:00 TOI, 2.03 points/60min
w/ Malkin - 7 points, 232:23 TOI, 1.81 points/60min

So at an individual level Hornqvist is more productive with Crosby than Malkin, but the line (as a whole) is more productive when he's with Malkin than Crosby.

I guess it was pure eye test for me...

I also hope that they put Kessel with Malkin so that the Malkinmites or Malkintonians, or whatever they are, stop crying about his wingers.

I just hope they don't waste Perron with Sutter.

They likely had a scrub like Comeau or Spaling on the left wing. That line needs a skill guy on the LW. I'd actually think Perron would be an even better fit there. And Crosby and Kessel have enough skill - no need for a Perron with them.

I'd prefer Dupuis-Crosby-Kessel, Perron-Malkin-Hornqvist

Any chance we extend Perron before the season starts? His looming UFA status makes me nervous.

I think he's probably thinking he can really increase his value this season, so I doubt it.

Eh, an increase in value means a successful season. I hope he plays himself out of the Pens' ability to pay him.

If we lose him after this season, I'd consider investing a 1st rounder in him a waste.

Kessel would have 0 goals on Sutter's line.

Is Sutter that much worse than Bozak?
