The first thing I noticed about that chart is Marchand's PK time. Whyyyyyyy are star players killing penalties. God I hate that.

He has a nose for killing penalties, though.

From what I've gathered, Sprong still needs some serious work on his defensive game. Serious work as in don't expect him to land a regular NHL job anytime soon.

i won't pretend that I know how to judge such things but I'm pretty sure Kessel (for instance) isn't exactly a Selke candidate. On one hand I know that a big part of our success comes from everyone buying in to a larger strategy. But I also know that you can insulate a wing from heavy lifting. To some extent at least.

Two quick points.
Kessel has more tools than Sprong
You can only insulate so many wingers and they are probably tickling that quota

Given that he Played 18 games in 15-16, it seems odd that this would be such a pressing issue. He was ok to be on an NHL team then, but not now? Hmm.

He ended up in the press box before he was sent back to juniors, so I guess he wasn't really ok.

Bear in mind I'm only relaying things I read here and there, but the consensus seems to be that he lacks defensive awareness bigly and, even worse, tends to give up on the play Ovie style. Based on that he would appear to be more of a project than I thought, but again, this is just second-hand interwebs wisdom, so maybe it isn't that bad at all.

I'm down with this. But if he can fill the net, there's an allowance for these shortcomings

Yeah, that shot is bananas. I am not sold that he can get it off in this league, but hot damn he can fire the pill.
