This is a really good point IMO that doesn’t get mentioned enough. Most of these other playoff teams also have THREE (or more) very good players/stars. We’re not so special in that regard. Still need to fill out a good bottom 6 or else this is what happens….Is our top 3 even worth being worried about anymore from other teams?missing the playoffs can absolutely be better, in certain situations. It’s not quite the same in the NHL since 7-8 seeds do occasionally make bonafide Cup runs but in the NBA the worst fate for a team is being an 8 seed. No chance to win the championship and also get a **** draft pick
but this Pens team ain’t good enough to make any noise and I’m usually the person who says “with Sid, Geno and Tanger anything can happen”. But our bottom six sucks and I don’t think Jarry is good enough for four seven-game series
What playoff team DOESN'T have at least 3 formidable players? At one point yea, Sid/Geno being generational are difference makers to a crazy degree. I don't think that's the case and the gap is either close or closed.

Rossi is wrong every time so that's a bummer.

What a difference it is for the local guys covering Rutherford vs Hextall.
They went from knowing everything well in advance to being as plugged-in and clueless as the fans.

Nah Rossi has always been dumb. Remember when they were getting rid of Geno like ten years ago?

I mean Rossi is a ball sack, but if I was the billionaire new owner of the franchise with the longest playoff streak in professional sports, only to watch them limp dick their way out of the playoffs on the heels of questionable personnel decisions made by a dude I didn't hire and have no previous allegiance to, I would think shitcanning everyone as a logical and appropriate response.

Right. It's just that Rossi is a mush, not a journalist. So we're hooped...

I’ll admit, I keep thinking it’s 2011 and not 2023 so you’re right that Geno and Letang are less “take over and dominate” than they used to beThis is a really good point IMO that doesn’t get mentioned enough. I do think Sid is different though. Very likely a homerist take, but the only guy I’d take right now before Sid in a dispersal draft is McDavid. It was a player vote so it was definitely a popularity contest but I do think there’s legitimately behind it. As frustrating as last night was, Sid was noticeable, in a good way, both offensively and defensively. You also get alltime great hockey IQ and 18 years and 3 cups’ worth of leadership
but our roster is too garbagio to support him this year

Hard times ahead… local TV broadcaster going bankrupt… recession on its way soon… Pens ticket sales gonna slump… high inflation… dahntahn zombies… team will try to Mickey Mouse fans back… and there’s no quick instant fix for the millennial fans… gonna take a nutting type effort to stay in the black… or some help from Gary again…

You came back after a 2 year absence for that?

If FSG had any sort of smarts to them, they should be firing Hextall as soon as the horn sounds to end the Canadiens-Isles game. Send a message.I mean Rossi is a ball sack, but if I was the billionaire new owner of the franchise with the longest playoff streak in professional sports, only to watch them limp dick their way out of the playoffs on the heels of questionable personnel decisions made by a dude I didn't hire and have no previous allegiance to, I would think shitcanning everyone as a logical and appropriate response.

Pens are going to be eliminated by another teams loser point.

It is genuinely sad that the playoff streak is over. It’s a reminder that the Sid the Kid era is close to over

for me, the rot started rolling when back in 17-18 fgmjr thought it a good idea to have greg frkn mckegg center the 3rd line
as we know, the pens never replaced bonino
as someone who believes about half of nhl gms rely more on luck than competency it's too bad they've had to suffer the former the last 2 1/2 years

just had to bring back the pigeon this season… sacrificed a few extra jersey sales for all the good juju and the playoffs… greed caused the end… and Elvis is gone…

I can’t believe it. Despite everything we’ve seen this season, I just can’t. And it’s not because I’m spoiled; I’m older than dirt and have never taken the good times for granted.
I can’t imagine what the core feels right now.
It never occurred to me that we’d lose last night. I know it sounds melodramatic, but I honestly feel like I’ve been kicked in the gut and can’t catch my breath.
