Ha that's all I keep thinking about. Maybe he just wants the security of a 4 or 5 year deal and we won't do it“I’m not thinking about my contract, I’m not thinking about money. I’m, like, a pretty rich guy.”

If it's coming down to one year difference and Hextall won't budge on it, he should be shown the door immediately.

According to Frank Seravalli, Pens offered Malkin a 4 year deal in the last 24 hours.

But seriously you can't just not have a 2C and there's no one better or even close available. So figure it out

Getting the feeling more and more that neither Hextall nor Burke really wanted to keep Malkin around in the first place, and all this negotiation has been theater. So now you'll see leaks of "Well we finally offered what he wanted and he went to FA so *shrug*" to try and paint Geno's camp as the baddies.

2011 and 2017.
The two years Malkin played more than 70 games.
I would be happy to keep him. But I'm okay if he takes his unreliability elsewhere.
"What will the do without a 2C?" Probably more than they do when they have to scramble with him out of the lineup for large parts of every season.

I’ll be sad to see Malkin leave but honestly I don’t feel he has tried to evolve his game as he has gotten older. He still plays the same way and after losing a step, he cant win those one on one battles anymore.
Also the last 2-3 years, I feel we play better hockey without Malkin in the lineup. I am ok with them revamping the second line behind Sid

I doubt they'd be employed if they didn't do everything they could to keep himGetting the feeling more and more that neither Hextall nor Burke really wanted to keep Malkin around in the first place, and all this negotiation has been theater. One would hope if Malkin leaving does happen that Hextall/Burke have some sort of plan to fill that spot.
