Making It Interesting (Sports Betting Thread)

Postby dodint » Wed Oct 07, 2015 3:50 pm

I don't mind talking in passing about what I have at stake in a particular contest in a GDT or other generic sports thread, but sometimes I have specific questions or items of interest that I'd like to discuss at length and maybe it would be better to not spread all of those discussions around. I'm not implying that mentioning your positions in event specific threads is wrong, I'm just creating this space so we can be windbags about it without he who shmenguin remain nameless having a tantrum. If the mods object to this consolidated discussion by all means nuke it, I won't protest.

The o/u for the NLWC is 5.5 I like the o, but I think it's more because I want more runs out of that game for obvious reasons. Also, it's a tangible consolation prize if things do go poorly. Additionally, my book still hasn't opened betting for ThNF this week because Luck only has one arm, and this upsets me.

Discuss.

Re: Colts - Josh Johnson was re-signed this morning. Luck listed as questionable, limited in practice. As is Matt Hasselbeck, who has been sick.

My gut says that Luck dresses as a backup for this game and only comes in if it falls into peril...

Im thinking of taking cubs and the under. Im definitely betting on no runs scored in the first inning.

I thought about that, then I gave up a homer in my sim game yesterday to the Cubs third batter.

Also, I don't normally wager on baseball. It's way too random, I just did this because it's a special event.
I did this a little in 2007, and when I bet the over in that PIT/MIA MNF game that ended 3-0, I quit until 2014. I did it for a few weeks last year but started betting baseball and pissed it away.

Now I have a set goal and a system and I'm having a really good time. I'm up 7x my initial deposit and I'm at a 66% success rate over 30 wagers. It's not even a money thing really, I just love being right about stuff.

I bet anything left over beyond the nearest $10 on no runs if i see a pitching matchup i like. So ill do it a lot in the playoffs. For example after a recent withdraw and last night's "no runs" bet i have 118.xx left. Ill be betting $8.xx on no runs...unless i do something else as well. My total bet on this game will be that 8.xx though.

My last bet of a session always rounds off the balance. The uneven final digits annoy the hell out of me but it's a product of winning, so *shrug*.

Colts are a 4.5 point dog. Interesting line.

Hasselback wasn't bad against the Jags. I would put this as a pickem.

Hasselbeck as the flu or TB or something...so he's not 100% either...not to mention, no ~40 year old athlete is likely 100% at "full" health anyhow...

We're a handful of Tylenol PM away from Josh Johnson playing in an NFL game...at quarterback...

Under seems like a good bet...

mikey, is it up? I checked this AM and it was still blank. I'm prepared to play a FG prop or something tonight since I doubt they'd blank those as well.

Got a shred of cell coverage. It is up, the o/u is 41. That's low, but I'm thinking a combo of under and a FG prop should make it interesting.

Colts +4.5/under seems fine for me...

And the jinx thing to say: The Colts seek their 16th straight divisional win, which would be an NFL record...

I think I'm going to make the same bet I did on SNF Seahawks/Lions. I'm looking at the 21.5 first half under and Colts over 1.5FG at 3.05. The way these games have been slow starting that seems pretty decent.

Took indy and the under for $5 and then each bet by itself for $2.50 each.

I'm happy this thread exists.

Unfortunately, it might get me start gambling again.

I am trying to keep the bets low this past week after i won big the week before. If i win too much in one shot bad things will happen. Aim small miss small.

I need to get back what the Pirates took from me yesterday, so I'm going to bet it all on a contest involving the...Texans. Hmph.
