Cars & Bikes, Driving & Riding
The Chevy Bolt is up to 259 miles of range, so it's possible to fit a sufficiently large battery in a small vehicle, and Tesla keeps improving its battery tech to pack in more power. I like the look of the Volkswagen ID.3, but unfortunately VW has decided that the US won't get it and will only get "...

Charging time really only comes into play when taking long road trips, though. Even before the pandemic, I figure more than 95% of my daily driving was well under 200 miles per day, and most days I drove less than 30 miles. Overnight charging on a home charger would have easily covered all of my cha...

Our last round trip through Europe was aboard an LHA 74-8. I haven't checked FlightRadar24 to know its carrier and destination, but a couple times a week we (normally) get overflown by one 7-4 on climbout from LAX going north-ish. It's probably going to be a cargo operator. Among others, I be...

I think it depends on the Tesla model, the capacity of the battery, and the type of the Supercharger. The older Superchargers might take a little more than an hour. I think the newest "V3" Superchargers are much faster, although there aren't as many of those yet. An hour or so would probably give a ...

I find the second table more interesting. Mask use in the US is actually higher than France and way higher than the UK. So the higher number of cases in the US as compared to places like France, Canada, and the UK cannot be blamed on masks alone. https://twitter.com/sangerkatz/status/128411178974416...

British Airways, which is the largest operator of the 747-400, has announced that it will be parking and retiring all 35 of its 747s effective immediately. This will make Lufthansa the largest 747 operator, with eight 747-400s and 19 747-8s. Although how long those will stick around is still unknown.

Swingers club. Sex club. Whatever else you want to call it.What the **** is a lifestyle club?
I think someone who belongs to one of those places is probably pretty unconcerned about catching diseases in general.

What's everyone favorite concert experience?
I'm not sure I have a favorite, but some of the best were:
Weird Al Yankovic at Metropol.
Chris Knight at the Rex Theater.
B.B. King at Heinz Hall.
Dream Theater and Joe Satriani at the A.J. Palumbo Center.

Had minor surgery yesterday to remove a cyst from my upper abdomen. I couldn't see the procedure, but the doctor said it was around the size of a walnut. He used an electrocauterization tool to remove a lot of it, and it's a little weird to hear your own flesh sizzle.

It's always impressive just how quickly the all-solid launch vehicles accelerate. The Minotaur IV hit Mach 1 in about than 20 seconds and was going Mach 3 in less than a minute.

The NTSB has released its report on Atlas Air flight 3591, which was the 767 cargo aircraft that crashed in Trinity Bay, Texas, in Frbruary 2019. The aircraft was flying cargo under contract with Amazon.com. The cause of the accident was determined to be an inadvertent activation of the go-around mo...

I'd like the DC Pork Barrels, or maybe the Washington Porkers. The logo could be a cartoon pig sticking out of a wooden barrel. Also entertaining would be to just call it "The Washington DC Football Team." Although the most appropriate name would probably be something like the Washington Twitter Mob...

Consumables and maintenance. It boggles my mind that most GA aircraft are still using 1940s-era air-cooled engines that are basically glorified VW Bug engines, and an engine rebuild on one of those costs something like $15,000 to $30,000 (and a new engine can cost upwards of $50,000). All that for a...

I don't remember. That was during a period where I really wasn't paying attention to F1. But I want to say I recall in the most recent off season something about the FIA coming to some sort of an agreement with Ferrari about excessive oil consumption. I want to say that other teams had accused Ferra...

I've never served, and it's been a long time since I was on a naval ship for a tour or anything like that, so I'd have to defer to those who would know better. It seems to me, knowing the age-old saying that fire is the greatest risk for a ship, that as much on a military vessel as possible would be...

Renault has filed a protest against Racing Point. It looks like the gist of the protest is that the 2020 Racing Points are using parts, including brake ducts, that come straight from the 2019 Mercedes car, and while it is legal to buy some parts like engines and transmissions from a competitor, brak...

On a lot or on an aircraft? The jet might cost a lot more than the house. When the Bombardier Challenger went out of production in 2018, the price tag for a new one was $32 million. Although a used one of the same vintage as the one owned by Travolta would only be around $2 to $3 million. New aircra...
