Son of the Revolution is the book that started my interest in Chinese culture especially under Mao. If you're reading more of a history but want more the feeling of living in the society I highly recommend this biography
Will check this out too, thanks

Reading a book on the Cultural Revolution in China. I may quit this one. It’s too hard for me to keep up with all the characters. Don’t know if it’s just me but foreign names are tough to keep track of since they are not common names to me. For some reason my brain doesn’t associate a face to them ...

I’m actually not a big fan of the keyless start/stop in vehicles. C2i’s example is one reason, the other being that my wife or I will leave the key fob in our jacket and forget to leave it in the car when we get home. So the next time one of us goes to drive the car, we have to search around for the...

Saw the full eclipse in Pymatuning just before the clouds arrived. Also felt the full brunt of that I-79 traffic. Sucked ass but it was worth it.

mikey's Thread of Penguin Randomness

Sports like football and hockey tend to allow comebacks more than others due to the prevent offense teams go into. Baseball and basketball you pretty much are forced to continue to try on offense. It’s why I enjoyed the 2016 Cup run so much. The Penguins just kept their foot on the necks of their op...

MWB has the right take. I enjoy manuals as long as I’m not sitting in traffic every day. If you have one long enough, there’s no thought to the process, it becomes second nature.

My wife and I were looking for something different the other day and started Cheers from the beginning. Man, that show started out in stride. I just figure it’s better to put that saved money into the Roth IRA right away so it can gain interest vs waiting until the end of the year. As long as the number of back door conversions is limitless. So, you definitely can't put it into your Roth directly over time because then you're subject to ...

I think IRAs and Brokerage accounts are the only options, which is unfortunate. You could also do what we do and invest in the IRA and then do a backdoor Roth conversion to get around restrictions/having to do any calculations. Looks like this is the way I’ll go since our income may push us over th...
