Pretty severe damage to that aircraft. CNN has some photos of the other side, and the right wing is melted to the point where the end is on the ground. http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/28/us/ohare-aircraft-incident/ Initial reports are that a tire burst on the takeoff roll, and it looks like shrapnel from...

The Japanese imperial family has had so few male members born in the 20th and 21st centuries that even though he was born many generations ago, Prince Mikasa was only fifth in the line of succession at his death.

Takahito, (royal name Prince Mikasa) at age 100. Takahito was the youngest son of Yoshihito (Emperor Taishō), the younger brother of Hirohito (Emperor Shōwa), and the uncle of Akihito (the current Emperor of Japan). He was the oldest member of royalty in the world.

In other news today, UPS just placed an order for 14 Boeing 747-8F freighters with 14 further options, which should keep the 747 line running through 2020 or so. Boeing had pretty much cleared the backlog of 747 orders, but this new order should mean that the 747 will make it to 50 consecutive years...

So the charter aircraft carrying VP candidate Mike Pence went of the end of Runway 22 at LaGuardia Airport. Fortunately for them, 22 is the only runway at LaGuardia that does not end in water. Based on initial videos it looks like the aircraft went at least partially through the EMAS (engineered mat...

STHs - Are You Happy?

I'm not happy at the moment, and we'll see how that might change. I prefer not to go to more than one game per week, and there are some games I just can't attend. I couldn't go to the Sharks game last Thursday, and I couldn't go to the Isles game tonight. For both games I put my ticket up on the tic...

I don't think I have ever seen @Shyster use profanity like this. Hipsters really annoy you. I like wearing dress hats. I like them because I'm going bald and they keep the sun off my head in summer and my head warm in winter. I also liked them precisely because they weren't cool or hip or in style....

I believe that the author - like you - is a middle aged man.
I don't view a young age as a necessary element to the state of being a pretentious hipster ******. It's more of a state of mind.

There are certainly issues with how the ballot question is worded, and I do think there are some serious questions as to whether it's misleading, especially compared to the much-better prior version. At the same time, I'm not sure how much the public is aware of just how important senior judges are ...

I ran across the below test of gun lubes, and I thought it might be of interest to my fellow gun owners here. The author tested 46 products (33 products specific to firearms plus other lubes/protectants like motor oil, ATF, and 3-In-One oil) for such characteristics as coefficient of friction and co...

Sort of a Moderate Liberal? Trump's sister makes Barbara Boxer look like Sarah Palin. I'm not aware of Judge Trump Barry being that liberal. She was indeed nominated to the Third Circuit by Clinton, but prior to that she was nominated to the USDC for the District of New Jersey by Reagan, so she cou...

I drove down to Cabela's in Wheeling over the weekend and bought a Ruger SR-556 Takedown. All one has to do to remove the barrel from the upper is to pull back on two tabs on the bottom of the fore-end and then give the barrel and gas block a 45° turn and pull. The three main components (lower, uppe...

I own a pair Unicomp Classic keyboards. Unicomp bought the production equipment for the IBM/Lexmark Model M keyboard in 1996. Beautiful. The all-black special paint job on the Air New Zealand 797-9 in the bottom-right of the third photo is amazing. ANZ was the launch customer for the 787-9, and the first aircraft got that special livery.
