Shyster, Freddy, and others... do you think there’s any need to change anything with guns now, or is it all good how it is?

It wouldn't, you would think there would be other common sense laws in place that would prevent a 19-year old from buying an AR-15. What common sense laws? Age requirements. From my understanding, this is what a background check would pull: -- Have you ever been convicted of a felony? -- Have you e...

If gun lovers want AR-15's they should have to register them. And what would this do to prevent Parkland? I mean I guess we would see that he had a registered AR-15 to kill people instead of an unregistered. Not sure how much that matters though. It wouldn't, you would think there would be other co...

Yes, shmenguin is interested in harassing gun owners in order to change the culture so 5 generations down the road people think it strange anyone would want to own a firearm. I know this is said with a bit of derision, but what is the problem with wanting to "change the culture"? My guess, and it i...

Yeah, that answers what i was asking. It was a question about any type irresponsible action, criminal or otherwise. That’s why I like the idea of pushing new gun owners to places where responsible gun owners already are. But that also requires licensing and hoops to jump through to get a gun.

Shyster, as a gun owner, do you feel any communal responsibility to help other gun owners use their guns responsibly? Or is it more of a live and let live attitude?

I don’t equate the two. One should be in the constitution. The other shouldn’t. The right to physically defend oneself is arguably the most important right. I too prioritize the safety of my family. You seem to be willing to delegate that responsibility to the govt. If, for example, some psycho bro...

To prevent someone like him from legally acquiring a weapon you've also got to allow for justification to exercise this constitutional right. You can't have one without the other. Whether the form is a registry or stricter rules up front with an initial purchase, there isn't and should not be an "e...

I agree, late in the games, they are very meaningful. The efficiency thing is the area where I think they can improve. Pitchers scour over scouting reports already. There are bullpen coaches who can discuss the strategy with a pitcher before he goes in. I'm not saying do away with strategy, just be ...

Mound visits are used to give the relief pitcher more time to warm up more than anything. Sometimes they are used for strategy for batters or defensive alignment. My point is, make the mound visit the "timeout" where the manager can deal with strategy. They get 6. If the manager just wants to put in...

Right, but the 6 mound visits would be the "timeouts." Currently, baseball has nearly unlimited timeouts.

Ditch the pitching change visits completely. Have the pitcher know he's done when his replacement trots onto the field.
Agreed. What other sport has a coach go on the field/court to tell a player he is out?

The problem I have with a registry is that it puts an onus on lawful owners to basically justify their exercise of a constitutional right... But I would much rather we focus the reform effort on preventing his kind from legally acquiring the weapon in the first place. To prevent someone like him fr...

I assume the gun owners buy and large would dislike a registry because it gives more information to the government, and a large percentage of gun owners already distrust the government. What if a private group of gun owners took control of some sort of licensing and worked with law enforcement when ...

5AF gun owners: are there concessions you’d be willing to make if it made it more difficult (not impossible, not crazy hard) for you to get a gun if it also made it less likely for mass shootings to occur? Or is that a non-starter?

What about some sort of graduated gun license being instituted? You could start by being able to buy revolvers and shotguns (or whatever would be appropriate guns that don’t do mass damage). After passing some sort of written exam and showing proficiency through putting in hours at a gun range or gu...
