Shyster's thread of Spaaaace.

The Falcon Heavy static fire was scrubbed for today. ULA is scheduled to launch the U.S. military’s fourth Space Based Infrared System Geosynchronous satellite (SBIRS GEO 4) from CCAFS on Thursday, and that launch takes precedence over SpaceX's tests, so the next opportunity for a static fire is now...

At least the professor didn't call the police "the largest criminal street gang in the United States," which is what I would call them if I were teaching that class.

Reading between the lines: "We don't have the money to invest in electric cars because most of our conventional cars are buckets of sh*t, so we're going to try to explain away our lack of R&D as a desire to avoid 'bad investments' and see if the market will buy that crap explanation."

Considering Renault owns Dacia, nothing says they can't use that name on their engines. Just like if WV were to build engines, they should totally put the Škoda name on them. :)

Hyundai is for Continental ST and PWC TC, not open wheel racing.
Yeah, just like nothing says "F1 racing" like the manufacturer who made the "Le Car." :P

If Renault and Peugeot can make F1 engines, then Hyundai can too (especially when Hyundai Motor Company crushes Groupe Renault in revenue).

I'm bored, and the 2018 season is still a couple months away, so I'm throwing out a topic. What auto manufacturer that is not currently in F1 would you most like to see enter F1 as either an engine supplier or a combined team/engine supplier? My vote is for Hyundai. Korea has become a major power wh...

To add to the above discussion, Scott Manley just did a video on the Delta IV and its flatulent RS-68 engine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-zmptK7PDE&t=0s SpaceX is still working towards the first static fire of the Falcon Heavy. The static fire could have taken place as early as last Wednesday,...

Banana was in skin I believe

Correct. The bananas in question (note the plural) have always been unpeeled, with no breaks or openings in the skin. And I even washed off the outside before eating them.

I've always wondered the same thing about the RS-68. The fire looks dramatic, but the Delta IV and the pad have been designed to deal with it. It crisps up the insulation, but from what I understand the insulation is only needed to prevent excessive ice buildup on the super-cold hydrogen tank during...

Totally neat on the Jupiter stuff. The images Juno has been sending back are positively stunning. ULA launched a spy satellite (NROL-47) for the US National Reconnaissance Office today using a Delta IV rocket, which was flying in the Medium+ (5,2) configuration with a five-meter payload fairing and ...

Philosophical question: Is clothing necessary for the concept of sh**ting yourself? I mean, if it's just bombs away and there's nothing between your butt and the ground (or the bottom of the tub), then I think we can all agree that you certainly sh*t, but did you sh*t yourself?

The current chief sumo referee (tate-gyōji), the 40th Shikimori Inosuke, apparently got blackout drunk during dinner and was being assisted back to his hotel room by a 17-year-old junior referee, at which time the tate-gyōji kissed his junior colleague a couple times on the lips and also "touched hi...

SpaceX says its vehicle performed nominally, and I would think that if anything had gone wrong with the Falcon 9, SpaceX would be standing down in the Falcon Heavy launch prep (and other future launches) to address the failure. The FH uses the same second stage as the F9, so a second-stage failure w...

Word of advice: my then four or five year old thought PNC Arena was way too loud during his first game. I highly recommend picking up a pair of noise canceling headphones. Does it make sense that my fuel efficiency would decrease by 22% with new tires?
That does sound a little extreme. Did you switch from a set of low-rolling-resistance eco tires to a set of sticky performance tires?

Sounds like you basically have big honkin' pork chops. I'd treat them as such. I'd hit them with a rub/cure, sous vide them for a couple hours at medium-rare temp (something around 140–145°), and then sear to finish. As to the "pork is pork" comment, there are many opportunities to prove her wrong t...
