anyone know of any non-traditional places to look for jobs (like not on the big name classified stuff online)? A good buddy of mine who has an English degree and a masters in library science wants to move to Pittsburgh asap, and he's trying to find a job. He doesn't necessarily need a library job, ...

Went to Blue Line prior to the game.

They had Founders Breakfast on tap, which was excellent. Also had a Chimay White (tripel) and Victory Winter Cheers. All for a fairly reasonable price, since happy hour went til 7.

4.1.2015 OFFICIAL GDT FLYERS @ PENS

The state of the NHL is **** terrible. It's impossible for a team to win when it's perfectly legal to tackle the best player in the game in the corner without repercussion, and the slightest tap or a guy falling down leads to a penalty against. I am seriously losing interest in the sport I love. It ...

And it's definitely turning into a fall down, get the penalty thing.
Only when it's the Flyers.

They can tackle Crosby without repercussion, it seems like.

The thing is, it's only "legal" because the rankings system is not perfect and they've never had to deal with a situation like this before, because teams are expected to play with integrity. Just like the Whitman thing. They hadn't considered the possibility that teams would forfeit their Sunday tou...

ethical/non-ethical depends on the culture of the ultimate frisbee circuit. like when greg schianno tells his defense to pile on eli manning when he's in victory formation. it's just an effort to win the game, but it wasn't "right" because of the culture of football. In hindsight, I probably left a...

Sports ethics/gaming a system related case study: University of Cincinnati's ultimate frisbee team was scheduled to play in a tournament this past weekend. As it stood last week, they were ranked 14th in the nation and were slated to gain the Ohio Valley Region (covering PA, WV, OH) a second, streng...

Have the Pens been in "win now" mode for too many years?

I sense a common theme in that list... True enough. Just by sheer odds, the more young people a team has playing, the more points they will score. Doesn't necessarily point to the talent of said players (but is certainly a correlation). True, but I was speaking more of the teams at the top of the l...

A puck possession and dump and chase system don't have to be separate entities. You can be a dump and chase team but still focus on puck possession or vice versa. The main focus of dump in chase in terms of a possession game is getting a good forecheck going and causing turnovers, which lead to offe...

6656 the idea of confession acting as a deterrent to sin makes perfect sense if you are trying to control the behaviors of your people, as organized religion has been wont to do. if you're denying the possibility that this was possible with christianity at some time and place, then i think you're b...

6629 i don't think citing the church's official explanation of confession is exactly hard evidence against tif's case. How so? It's not meant to be public shaming, which tif seems to think it is. I would also argue it's not entirely supposed to be a "deterrent", in the sense that we are all humans ...

I thought (or at least was taught) that the entire point was that the priest was a way to confess through him to God and receive penance and be absolved of the sins. Essentially being a middle man of sorts. I never thought public shaming was the point. More or less. The teaching is that humans are ...

The entire point and purpose of confession is public shaming i stopped reading here. the axe is sharp. well agree to disagree. The deterrent role of confession is that you don't sin because you don't want to have to reveal your transgressions. Easier to not transgress. That's not it at all... Not e...

I don't think other Catholics who are going there for the same thing sit there and think "Look at that idiot praying for forgiveness".
