One could argue you're just as narrow in your scope. You're focused on black killing each other without taking into consideration why it's happening, which is what the whole discussion was revolving around. You're not even attempting to entertain a notion that there's been generational cause and ef...

Bottom line, neither the penalties and obstacles for bad luck nor the rewards for good luck should be as great as they are. We should aim to cancel the effect that luck has on the quality of one's life. On average, BIPOC are (unquestionably) more likely to face bad luck. You can cherry pick unlucky...

The whole "black on black crime" thing is a red herring to distract from the actual issue that is causing/has caused the violence and the turning toward it in the first place. When black people can't/couldn't get jobs via legitimate ventures because of the system in place, how do you expect that to...

Anyone use Tavour or know anything about how well it works in PA? https://about.tavour.com/ Suprisingly, PA is not one of the three states on Tavour's "do not ship" list. They will ship here, but you can only get a 12 pack a month and you can't have more than one sixer of any brand per shipment. So...

Put together a couple jars of the Brad Leone-recommended honey garlic ferment a little less than two weeks ago now. Really liking it. Favorite application so far is on pizza. Going to make a dressing using both the honey and the garlic at some point this week.

He needs to buy whatever time he can, be it a day, a week, a month, whatever. In that time he buys, Biden could commit a material blunder, the woke left could become even more of a lightning rod for negative attention of swing voters, etc. In 2020, a week is a long time. I know what the polling says...

Lawsons is in Pittsburgh now? Didn’t realize they branched that far out. Yeah, in the last couple months. Frost also just arrived (maybe some Alchemist could be next...). Allagash is back now too. Sloop is the other recent addition. Considering the amazing local scene, great time to be a beer drink...

799462 I’m not an expert on the science, but I’ve heard a lot of brewers comment on the lack of shelf stability of hazy IPA. There are places trying to find ways to make it more stable, but to me, this is a style that’s best consumed locally at the source. In that regard it’s kind of fun to travel ...

The M43 was from May and wasn’t kept cold, so maybe that’s the issue... I drank Sip after I drank the M43, so I’ll certainly give it its fair chance tonight as the first beverage I drink on my zoom call with grad school friends. I agree with Kraftster. My drinking has definitely increased in these ...

I’ve been making up for all you slackers. Drinking a good bit of beer during the pandemic between using brewery runs as an excuse to get out and drinking down the cellar. Happy to continue to do my part to even things out.

Old Nation Brewing Co.'s M-43.... meh. Don't get me wrong. It's a good beer and I'm going to drink them, but it seemed to be super hyped and I don't see the hype. It's on par with many good NEIPA beers that I've had. I can get something from Troegs, Platform (when I'm in Cleveland), Singlecut, etc....

I became acquainted with the #shutdownstem and #shutdownacademia movement(s) this weekend. I cannot help but worry that too broad an acceptance of (or even agnosticism towards) these sorts of ripple effect moral panic movements is where the democratic party goes to die. Do you make your own koji ? Nope. I just order the Koji Kin stuff from Amazon. Hasn't killed me yet, but I could be talked into making my own if I will see advantages? As with anything in the kitchen, making your own is a cost-benefit exercise. You can control the final product, but it is honestly ...

Did a 72 hour koji ribeye side by side with non-koji last night. Both cooked reverse sear. https://i.imgur.com/7CSeC7x.jpg https://i.imgur.com/KwHE9Rl.jpg This was the thinnest steak I've ever used koji on (probably only 1-1.5" vs. 2-2.5" I've done in the past). It lost only about 12-15% of weight ...

oh man. I don't know about a sledge breaking that up. I've never done it, but a neighbor told me he has this issue and he drilled a hole with a mason drill then hammered rebar into the hole and it eventually split. No idea if that'll work here though That's an interesting idea. It's a shame it's no...

Speaking of soil, we decide to dig a patio/fire pit into the hillside in our back yard. It's not really feasible to get an excavator in there, so I've gotten underway manually. It has really just become an exercise routine more than anything else. I think it will take weeks to finish. 15'x15' and p...
