GDT: Game 2 - Penguins @ Blackhawks 8:30 PM

Man, this feels like the Greiss era, when it just seemed like a guaranteed loss whenever the backup got a game.
Brent. Johnson.
I forgot about him. Wasn't Johnson good for one season, and then turned into Swiss cheese in the next, or something?

I just wanted to pop in and say that I support @obhave with regard to mansplaining/mentterupting/whatever. I don't see it much where I work, because, I think, we're a small department with just about an equal ratio of men to women, and we're all reasonably considerate and mature people. However, whe...

Thoughts on the game... 1. The Crosby line will score loads of goals, but will probably still be too weak defensively for the playoffs. 2. Hagelin looked like he has his jump back. I thought he never quite looked right in the playoffs. That line could work with him doing puck retrieval and back-chec...

If you drop a bit of water on it, does it bead or pool? Bead is sealed. Pool is unsealed :thumb: Well, this is subway tile in the shower, so I assume sealed right? Not necessarily. It's an extra step that may or may not have been done. Only way to know is to test it or ask the installer. When we ha...

Re: Discussing overpopulation and the environment https://www.vox.com/energy-and-environment/2017/9/26/16356524/the-population-question Thanks for posting that. That was an informative take on the issue. Though, I do feel like he kind of undercuts his argument a bit by actually providing a nuanced ...

The only political calculation I could not quite understand was Trump's backing of Strange. Honest opinion: Trump didn't know who he was before endorsing him. He just saw "Jeff Sessions' replacement; named 'Strange'; I shall endorse." There is literally no rhyme or reason to why Trump would back th...

I'm torn on the population growth issue. I get the economic problems, but there are other smart people making the argument that it's irresponsible for people to have more than 1 child from the environmental point of view. So, if we want to keep the economy vibrant and various social benefit systems ...

Guentzel-Crosby-Sheary Hagelin-Malkin-Kessel Kuhnhackl-McKegg-Rust Wilson-Rowney-Reaves Are those the announced lines for tonight or just speculation? (Edit: That question is now cleared up.) That really kind of seems like 2 4th lines in the bottom 6, though I guess it's not like we have better opt...

I admit that I haven't been exactly glued to the screen, as I've been doing work with the game on in the background, but after 1 period, I'd say things are about what you'd expect. The guys who we expect to be good look good, and the guys with numbers I don't recognize haven't really stood out.

Steelers @ Bears -- Week 3 -- GDT

I can't really fault the defense here. They've really only given up 14 points, if you don't count that bizarre blocked FG play, and they've created some turnovers that set up the offense with great field position. If the offense could get anywhere close to their professed goal of 30 pts/game...

I probably would have said he was down, but I guess the case could be made that there wasn't enough to overturn the call on the field.

Yeah, I don't know about this. If it's not a safety, why isn't it like fumbling out of bounds? I.e., no reason to extend the half?

Ugh...this is reminiscent of that ridiculous game in Cleveland several years ago when the Browns were terrible, but the Steelers had 8 turnovers or something and blew the game.

For what it's worth, Bombulie on Madden last week said if he had to bet on 3C and 4C for opening night, Rowney would be 3C and McClement would be 4C. That seems odd to me, but, of course, I haven't been at the practices or watching the games.

Key word being ongoing. Yeah, when I was driving around listening to NPR about 2 hours ago, they were talking about how this dam is about to fail, potentially putting 70,000 people in serious danger, but 1) they have very little power and working telecommunications, so it's hard just to notify the ...

Crystal Palace seems to be locking down one of the relegation spots already. They're just jogging around out there against City and letting them do whatever they want. It's pretty pathetic.

I watched the first season and thought it was reasonably intelligent, realistic sci-fi. I haven't been moved yet to seek out the 2nd season.

I don't know if it's just the lackluster recently completed season or what, but I pretty much have no desire to see more of GoT through spinoffs after the final season. I'm sure I could be enticed back if a spinoff is getting great reviews, but otherwise, I'd be perfectly happy saying goodbye to Wes...

So, the whole hour of 1A on NPR today was dedicated to discussing the Manafort situation. They had his spokesperson on, and his defense of Manafort was basically: 1. Trump is an objectively incompetent president. I don't see the issue in actively cheering on his impeachment. I don't worry about it further fracturing the country either. His election proved we're already there. That's pretty much my stance too. I think he's a danger to the country and the world, ...

From what I've gathered, Sprong still needs some serious work on his defensive game. Serious work as in don't expect him to land a regular NHL job anytime soon. Bombulie was on with Madden yesterday, and that was his take too. He thought ZAR was way ahead in terms of having a well-rounded, NHL-read...
