Pens D on opening day

I didn't see this elsewhere, and while it's a few days after the fact, I thought I'd share. During Tuesday's "Legends With the Fans," a 93.7 The Fan monthly live gathering with Bob Pompeani, Jim Rutherford and Ed Johnston discussed their histories as NHL goalies and executives. When Pomp brought up ...

So looks like student rush attendance nosedived they had to send players out to literally give tickets away to college kids It's terrible to do things for fans. :face: Seriously, I get that this looks like a ploy to keep the sellout streak alive, but really? Come on. When tickets are available, why...

Tom Sestito invited to camp on a PTO. I know little about him -- details? I'm presuming he's a 4th line physical type? Ahh, I do remember now, reading an article about him a while back. He was a big PIMs guy in Vancouver before Tortorella was fire, then he got the shaft, or so he thought. Might not...

I dont get why this has to be explained. I don't get why you can't disagree without being rude. I know what a tryout it is. Yeah, he's not a lock, but bringing in a guy like Gonchar who has a history with the team and the fact they have no room on defense I think logic would lean toward a greater c...

Gonchar coming back

I'm still holding out hope that Scuderi will find a new home before the season, in which case Gonchar can serve as the 7th defenseman in a player/coach role with a specific task of mentoring Pouliot and the other young defensemen. Yohe mentioned that, while Guerin was the public leader of the Pens 2...

I am thinking of grabbing a Chromebook for use during work travel. My current laptop's battery is dead unless plugged in, and I can't guarantee I'll always have access to a plug. There's a sale item at Best Buy putting an Asus Chromebook at $129 from $279, and I feel like there's better value in bu...

has anything else been written about Kunitz's alleged iron deficiency? if it was a legitimate problem last year, I think he'll be able get that under control with a full offseason and get back to form. I mean, his best two seasons were three and two years ago, so it's not like he's been falling apa...

Last year he signed a one year deal for less than his fair market value, sustained major injuries for the first time in his career, wasn't particularly impressive when he was healthy, and now finds himself as one of the last guys on the market. Yea he's got his buyout money coming his way, but ther...

No he did not sign anywhere. And he also got infinity million dollars to leave Buffalo. I know this isn't going to happen, but I'd be thrilled with Scuderi being dealt and replaced by Ehrhoff on another one year deal. Gives Ehrhoff another year to prove himself for a big contract and gives the Peng...

I guess Ehrhoff's one year deal with the Pens will go down as one of the all time backfires.
Not sure how it backfired? The guy got hurt. He wasn't great, but he certainly played well enough to justify his $4 million cap hit.

Plotnikov bought out his contract in order to come here. “Without us asking, he's already talking about getting over here early,” Rutherford said. “Some of the things he's done speak volumes of his character.” For example, Rutherford said, Plotnikov, 25, footed the $500,000 bill to terminate his Ko...

Rutherford said, as reported by various credible Tweeters (media types) that he still plans to add a fourth line center and a winger, though he didn't specify the type or quality of winger (scoring winger vs. checker). He added that he feels optimistic he will make more moves today. The word "moves"...

I like Ward, but I think the issue with him is that he'll turn 35 in December and is coming off two pretty damn good seasons with the Caps and might be looking for a raise over the $3 million he made last season. Yeah -- Ward is a nice player who would have been a great fit the last time he was a f...

If Rutherford circles back to St Louis, I think the Penguins' best option is what Dreger suggested might be the topic of discussion: Sutter for Oshie and Fabbri. I would assume the hang up there was twofold: one, GMJR was holding out for Kessel and didn't want to hurt his chances by making another t...

the Pens need to get younger This argument has never made any sense. It makes perfect sense. Young players have a good chance of outperforming their contract. They also provide insurance for when Malkin, Crosby, etc. exit their primes -- they'll have guys just entering their primes. It's a cycle th...

Darren Dreger seems fairly certain the Pens and Blues are going to pull off a significant deal, one that will shake up both clubs. This is the guy who also reported Malkin wants out. Take it with a grain of salt. I could be wrong here, but I don't recall Dregger getting in on the Malkin wanting out...

The idea of having a pure sniper in Kessell on Crosby's wing makes me salivate with excitement. Cap hit: His $8 million per year cap hit extends for another ...

Not sure why I'm just thinking of this -- and maybe it's been discussed here -- but Kunitz to Buffalo seems like a more than logical scenario. Bylsma loves him some Kunitz, and word after Bylsma was fired was that Kunitz was among those displeased with the decision. Kunitz may not like the idea of g...

55893 With Letang, Martin, Maatta, and Cole, the team would be making room for no more than two new defensemen. You don't consider Cole a new defensemen? New is the wrong word. Young, is a better choice. Cole is a tweener...not quite young, but not quite experienced, either. Maatta, to me, falls in...

I don't see the point in keeping around Martin when the one thing the Pens have in their farm system is defensemen. None project to be the minute muncher that Martin is. The fact that he can play over a period of low maintenance, heavy-lifting minutes is a big deal with some many young guns potenti...
