Motorsports (non-NASCAR)

I just learned that Ricciardo will be plugging in his 4th ICE for Barcelona. He won't be able to use any more engines for the rest of the season without incurring a grid penalty. Because that's what the fans want. The FIA: "We want teams to use staggeringly complex "power units" with energy recover...

I don't want to create a new thread, so this may be the appropriate place: Even though I totally understand the importance of space exploration, I really don't know much about space exploration history, etc. On Thursday, Fred Haise, James Lovell and Gene Kranz of Apollo 13 fame will speak at the Uo...

Fixed. And lol, you are correct sir. :fist:
Oh snap! I just noticed that Season 5 has already started. I need to go get the first four episodes in a totally-legal, non-copyright-infringing way.

Meow's Morning Meeting - 4-20-15 vs. NYR - GAME 3

My take has been much like it has been the last 1/4 of the season -- not playing 60 minutes. Concur. This team just hasn't been able to put together a consistent performance. And it's not just last night or the last couple of games; that's been the case for months. I think this is a team that looks...

I'm leafing through the current issue of the PA Bar News, and there's an ad for a continuing-ed program with the title "My Client's Dead, Now What?" Is it a bad sign that my first thought was "Did you kill him?"

I shall have to consult the Book Of Armaments, but my recollection is that mushrooms will initially give off a fair bit of moisture when you hit them with heat, and then fairly quickly reabsorb that liquid (plus whatever other liquid was in the pan) after a short period. That's particularly true of...

Since its creation, the PA Gaming Control Board has enforced a gun ban for PA's casinos. That no-guns policy was just repealed because it violates state preemption: http://blog.princelaw.com/2015/04/17/pa-gaming-control-board-rescinds-unlawful-regulation/ PA casinos are no longer off-limits for lega...

The guy had a concealed carry permit and pulled a shotgun? And six shots only injured the bad guy? Not sure if I admire the guy's skill at shooting-to-wound or am disturbed at his lack of skill in shooting-to-kill. I just looked at some news reports, and some way he had a shotgun and some say he ha...

But lingering in my mind is why private companies did not do this in the '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s. Sort of like why private companies didn't extend electrification to rural America in the first third of the 20th century. It took the New Deal and the REA to do that. I think because at the time t...

Ordinarily, mushrooms absorb moisture more than release it.
I'm certainly strongly inclined to accept your statements on culinary matters. But your assertion seems to contradict my observations that mushrooms release a lot of moisture when cooked. Could you please elaborate?

Do you honestly believe that a trillion dollars in the hand of private enterprise would have put humans on Mars by now? Or would have in the next, say, five years? If you gave that money to the right people and said "Go to Mars," then yes, I do believe that. And I question whether NASA would be abl...

I'm familiar with it. I wish private enterprise all the success in and out of this world.
But let's be serious...
Elon Musk is already a billionaire, and he certainly seems serious. If he weren't serious, I question whether he would have started a rocket company to begin with.

Depends. Would NASA be spending all the money itself, or would stuff be contracted through private-sector players like SpaceX? If it went to SpaceX, then we would be on Mars by now. If it all went to NASA, half would have been spent on projects that were subsequently canceled, a quarter would have g...

All I know is one of the Ford -class boats will revive the name Enterprise . The third one, yes. They haven't named any more than the first three. And strictly speaking, CV-67 ( Kennedy ) was the only ship in its own class. It was supposed to be nuclear powered, but the Navy was ordered to change it to coal fired I think after the keel was laid. So the smoke exhaust was bodged in, and had to be angled out of the top of the island to keep the ...
