I still don't understand why Colorado would do this. Neck Ass is good, but Rantanen is better, and you only have 1 more year on Neck Ass's deal before needing to re-up (and who knows what he asks for). Taking on Kotkaniemi too is... woof

Why would Colorado do that?

I understand he's a UFA, but you're in the WC1 and having Rantanen is better for competing this year than whatever you'd get in a trade.

My wording mistake - one to two "impact" players max difference between these teams. I think Caleb Downs (who is the prime example people point to) is getting $2.4 mil in NIL and Judkins got $2 mil-ish. That's literally the difference between OSU and the rest of the pack.

It's dumb when it's used to diminish the accomplishment, yes, considering that literally every team operates under the same rules, and most are within $5 million of each other (which is like, one or two players max).
