JRR Tolkien Super Duper Mega Thread
... how to successfully adapt a complicated source narrative from prose to suit a filmic storytelling framework. I presume this is California-talk for "turning great things into sh*t." "filmic." Really? I apologize. I'm just bored, love Tolkien, and feel like talking. The talking part won't last.

I have the Rob Inglis audiobooks. I've heard that maybe the Serkis ones are as good or better, but I'm not gonna spend my credits on such repetition.
I like the Inglis LotR, 'though I still prefer the Martin Shaw Silmarillion.

Here's another perspective that you will hate: My intro to Tolkien/LOTR was the Peter Jackson movies. I know them backwards and forwards, have watched the appendices a ridiculous amount of times, all of the commentary tracks, etc. I really love them. I tried listening to the Serkis audiobooks and q...

I mean, hey, if yinz think spending the better part of $200 million making something that's not Tolkien is a good thing, then you're welcome to it.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone loathing those movies. I was about to say "loathing" is too strong a word. But I stopped and thought a bit. I gotta be honest. I do, in fact, loathe the movies. I loathe for what could have been. Once again, I know (generally) what it takes to get movies made...

Peter Jackson and his team knew nothing of the feel of Tolkien. Jackson loved to spend 30 minutes on stupid CGI battles with things flying through the air but couldn't take 30 seconds to put in Tolkien's beautiful language. Think of Gandalf at the Bridge of Khazad Dum. Think of Gimli's reaction to G...

How many know that, constitutionally, the Presidential candidate and the Vice Presidential candidate cannot be from the same state?
How stupid is that? Just another reason to scrap this bloody US Constitution and make a new one.

My grandfather was Vice President under Herbert Hoover.
Wait. Was he? No, he wasn't. But no one would know the difference if I said that.

A few months ago, I downloaded the audiobooks of LotR . I started reading Tolkien when I was about 10. I read The Hobbit and LotR probably five times over the next 10 years. But then I stopped for whatever reason. Hadn't read them in maybe 30 years. But I've been listening to them recently. I forgot...

To me it’s clear that people who want to destroy the concept of “traditional biological sex” will pull anything out of their asses in order to manufacture the notion that biological sex doesn't exist. One of my vets has a dog that was born without an ass. More specifically, no rectum. She had to su...

The Chiefs pick was revealing. I've seen Felix A-U in person at K-State. I think he'll fit in and be a good player. I just love the name Felix, too. Problem is: he would probably have been available 10 picks back. The Chiefs should have traded back IMO. But they couldn't do that 'cause the event was...

1. The answer is always the Raiders I grew up a Raiders fan. I was an Army brat and so had no regional affiliation. My older brother loved the Cowboys, so naturally I went in the opposite direction. He went white hat so I went black hat. I was a Raiders fan up until maybe the late '80s when I lost ...

This isn't a super compelling argument coming on the heels of the NE Pats dynasty that went to like a dozen conference championship games in a 16- or 17-year span. But if it any way would make teams like, for example, the Browns even more comical, then I'm all for it. Yeah. Who amongst you Stillers...

I agree completely.
I just think it would be fun.

An interesting idea. I was listening to the Kelce brothers' podcast (New Heights) on the road yesterday and Jason suggested that the NFL could benefit from a relegation system like soccer. The bottom three (or whatever) teams get relegated to a second tier (maybe a new NFL minor league or USFL or XF...
