Rutherford Interviewed by Pompeani

I wish they would have talked more about who they view as trade pieces that could return a Top 6 player. Kind of odd that Pouliot isnt listed as untouchable. Could he be moved? No one is truly untouchable... it is just the thing to say. I agree with that. I am not surprised that he didnt really com...

Rutherford Interviewed by Pompeani

Like you're going to get answer to that...I would definitely not be moving Pouliot, but just because a player isn't listed as "untouchable core" doesn't mean that he's for sale to the most mediocre bidder... He has said time and time again that he isnt going to pursue a top 6 forward through free a...

Rutherford Interviewed by Pompeani

They would never list players they were going to try to move.
I wouldnt expect him to do that. But when he doesnt list Pouliot on his list of untouchables I imagine you could ask a follow up like, "Is Pouliot a guy that you would move for Top 6 help?"

Rutherford Interviewed by Pompeani

Rutherford talked to KDKA's Bob Pompeani yesterday. I'll give the highlights in this thread so you don't have to watch (though it's only 3 minutes). - Pens have 13 million available, but Rutherford doesn't like the UFA group. He'll instead try to be active leading up to July in re-signing / trades....

Petry was a guy the pens could have looked at but my God 6yrs 33M Probably would've gotten more in free agency. I mean, he's good, but that good? Welcome to the market now. I wouldnt be surprised to see Martin get $6M. He can still log a ton of minutes and has been one of the few Pens who hasnt bee...

Trading Letang...that ship has sailed, I think. When he first got that contract, he was certainly being paid on his ceiling. But when he's in the lineup, he's definitely playing like a $7 million defenseman. Say you dont trade Sutter. I dont see anyone other than Letang who can bring back a Top 6 w...

My guess is still that Spaling gets first look there...assuming a vacancy opened up. I just cant see them getting fair return for Sutter. I think he will sign an extension and the Pens will need to use another trade piece to get a Top 6 winger. I've seen a couple articles now that have suggested th...

side note: part of me worries that we might try to take a run at Chris Stewart this off season,
Why do you say that?

Too much. Stafford is better suited for womens hockey. GMJR has placed a priority on getting a Hornqvist like winger for Malkin. I dont see that happening via Free Agency and we dont have any real trade chips that we would be willing to move. The Malkin/Hornqvist combo did not work. Hopefully whoev...

Stoll scoring 9 points instead of 12 is not a reason to not want a player of this type in my opinion... If you replace Sutter with Stoll you are going to see a substantial drop in production. From that standpoint I cant justify the swap. Oh, well, if that was the point...then yes, of course. I thin...

I wonder how much Drew Stafford is going to get as a UFA. I think I would target him over Frolik if the price is right.

Very rarely is there an elite talent that allows for a blank check type deal and I don't think letang was that type of player. He is a very good passer and has exceptional closing speed. But he's under sized and isn't particularly good on the pp. He struggles in his end against big forwards. To me ...

I agree completely FLPF...unfortunately, that narrows the search, as you scratch off Sobotka, Burmistrov, Spaling, etc. Eric Fehr is a terrific choice...Kyle Brodziak, maybe a little short on skill, but a terrific PK guy, faceoff guy, hard worker...doesn't have the impact in big games that Sutter d...

Makes no sense this year. Last year you weren't sure what you might have in Poliout and you didn't want to rely on Bortuzzo every night. If going into the season our D is Letang Mattaa Poliout Cole Lovejoy Scuderi/Doumulin/Chorney/Harrington I can live with that. I can too. Need to fix the top 6 an...

So you would move him now...? Or soon?
If I'm TB I look to resign him. I'd pay Subban money for Hedman.

To be clear I thought the Pens should have resigned Letang, but I wouldn't have paid a cent over 6M for him. If Letang didn't take it I would have looked to trade him.

Great point, Hedman has been terrific. Another example of the need for a #1 elite PMD on a winning club. Especially one with the offensive characteristics and skill of this team. Hedman is a lynchpin. For me I take Hedman over Letang everytime. Hedman can move the puck but is also one of the best d...

The reason letang's contract is a problem is that when combined with the contracts of the two superior players crosby and malkin, it puts the team in a cap situation where they cant afford any bad contracts and even if they manage that, which they havent, they will need substantial contributions fr...
