Elliote Friedman: "Pressure is caving in on Crosby"; "Top of Pens org is paranoid"

I doubt Friedman would have said what he said about Crosby if there wasn't something to it. He may have been a little dramatic in describing him looking morose but Crosby doesn't look like he's having fun. He looks pretty tight and most of the recent Penguins teams have had that trait.

Preseason thread

I've seen very little of the pre-season action:

Clendening or Erixson?
From what I saw, Clendening looked pretty stable. He's a RH shot as well so that might help his chances to get into the lineup.

Rutherford actively pursuing first-rounder.

Wonder what they would need to give up. Could a promising but largely unproven goaltending prospect (Murray or Jarry) yield a first round pick? That'd be my guess. If they're not trading a core piece or a young defenseman then there aren't many other options on the current roster. Perron would be t...

Arizona Coyotes Lost $34.5 Million in 2014-15

The NHL has a huge interest in keeping the Yotes there for TV purposes. They are the only team in the Southwest really, and if they lose them the market goes away. Maybe instead of expanding to Vegas, move Phoenix there? It may make more sense for the Coyotes to move to Seattle. There is some conce...

Molinari tweeted after Shero was hired by the Devils that Fitzgerald could potentially go there. And it's not a big secret Botterill's contract is up. It's also not a leap to imagine the cap guru being concerned about the GM potentially putting the team in salary cap hell.

Looking back on it, I wish they would've been able to keep Hossa long term. He gives Toews and Kane space and can create on his own. Plus his back checking ability is second to none for a winger.

If sutter and pouliot could net you hall...well i guess the front office changes edmonton made would be taking them in the wrong direction. That's not all it would take obviously, but my point was to get a good top 6 winger, it's going to have to cost more than Sutter. And then at the point if they...

What can they get for Sutter? I doubt too many teams are going to give up a top 6 winger straight up for him. It'll take another piece from the Penguins to make that move. If they go after Taylor Hall for example, they're going to have to include someone like Pouliot. I guess my point is I don't rea...

UFAs-to-be - Now With Patented Poll Action!

Comeau - He had a good season, one of the best of his career but he's not someone I'd feel comfortable slotting in on one of the first two lines next season. He's a third liner at best. If they could sign him to a reasonable deal I would not be against it. Lapierre - He didn't score 1 goal while he ...

This team got "soft" (if that's your concern) long before Rutherford arrived. I don't disagree with that. Shero is just as responsible as anyone else for their problems. I was just pointing out how he built a championship team in a small amount of time because he knew what types of players they nee...

I agree with Rorabaugh's point about the Penguins perception of themselves and the reality. They have built up this idea that they still are one of the league's best teams. They're not. And it was actually discouraging to me that there wasn't at least some acknowledgment of that after the season. If...

I always thought the despres off ice issues stuff was leaked in response to negative public backlash regarding the trade. Also... lovejoy is still under contract with the team. What a BS move by rutherford going public saying you are second guessing the trade. You back your guy to the media. You ca...

Rutherford Press Conference - 4/28/15

Re: Lovejoy. Fowler-Lovejoy became the "everything" pairing for Anaheim...they played their toughest competition, they were out there all the time...so maybe the feeling was that he could do that here as well...so, the 12-minute thing was probably not what GMJR was thinking if I had to guess...he p...

I think Dejan reported today that Tocchet would not be fired. He seems far more responsible in his reporting than those other clowns. Not really. He was the one who pretty much got the whole "Despres has off ice issues" thing started after he was traded. He never disclosed who exactly told him that...

It was strange to me that there was seemingly no changes to the top guys in the scouting department after Shero was fired. That was one area that needed changed and we're here a year later with maybe the only philosophical change being, draft more forwards. In regards to Sutter, he's probably one of...

Buyouts as we're thinking of them are over right? If you buy someone out now they still give the team a cap hit. Fully aware. 904k cap hit for 4 years or whatever is better than Scueri taking up 3+ million over the next 2 and being a dead spot in the lineup. According to war-on-ice.com's buyout cal...

It's time to let the young defense play next year. Maatta, Pouliot, Dumoulin, and Harrington should all be regulars or at least on the opening night roster. Buy out Scuderi, which would save about $2 million in cap space. Cole is a RFA but I wouldn't expect him to get that much of a raise. The forwa...

Meow's Morning Meeting - 4-24-15 vs. NYR - GAME 5

This series established in my mind that we shouldn't fire HCMJ...yet. He definitely gave them a chance to be in a series that they probably had no business being competitive in. I like a lot of what he did this year, especially with the defensive play. The thing that worries me is offensively, they...
