I don't get it, is the premise here that we're not supposed to dismiss arguments/viewpoints from biased sources? You certainly can if the arguments/viewpoints are themselves incorrect or biased on the merits, and you can say how and why. But the mere fact that a source is, in your opinion, biased o...

I suggest touching grass every so often. It’s nice.

Telling someone to "touch grass" is also a fallacy in that it does not respond to the merits of what someone is saying.

If any of you are wondering if I do this in real life, I've cited Logic for Lawyers : A Guide to Clear Legal Thinking by the late Hon. Ruggero J. Aldisert in more than half a dozen cases, and there have been several cases where I filed briefs where I set out categorical syllogisms to show the argume...

Is this where I say I’m rubber and you’re glue? Because you’re using the same terrible arguing you dismissed me for. How so? You dismissed a book out of hand because it was published by an organization that you assert is biased (genetic fallacy) and was co-founded by one of the Koch brothers (assoc...

Come on man. I know you understand what a good source is. From the first line of what the Cato Institute describes itself as being it makes it plain as day that there is a strong bias towards a certain way of approaching things. Add in that the Koch brothers helped found and back it and you have so...

In a normal country, this would be grounds for immediate disqualification of a candidate You mean like, officially, or just that no one should vote for that person? As quoted in this AP article, the Trump campaign says they didn't make the video: “This was not a campaign video, it was created by a ...

Malört does offer packs of airplane bottles. That's what I bought last year in Chicago. I still have one left. It starts off with a bit of hoppy bitterness, with a bit of that sort of piney/citrus flavor, but any citrus notes quickly fade into a nearly pure bitterness. There's not the slightest hint...

Did you make the orgeat, or buy it? Orgeat and falernum are two ingredients that I have not yet tried to incorporate into my mixology.

Most recently I picked up a bottle of Amaro Nonino and made some Paper Planes. Equal parts bourbon, Aperol, Amaro Nonino, and lemon juice. Very nice.

It's a non-alcoholic syrup flavored predominantly with almonds, often with rose water or orange flower water. I just learned that it's pronounced "ohr-zsa" as in Zsa Zsa Gabor, and the "t" is silent. Huh. Anyway, it's used in a few famous cocktails, most notably the Mai Tai and the Japanese Cocktail.

Ah yes a Koch founded think tank. Surely they will steer us in the right direction.

You should read this one first, so that you could actually recognize the fallacies in what you just said.

I know people passionately love the stuff, but I've never liked the taste of Sriracha. It just doesn't taste good to me. I used to be into hot sauce a lot more when I was younger, but as my digestive system has aged, I don't do the super-spicy stuff so much any more. These days my hot sauce of choic...

Also, events other than increasing the money supply cause inflation. Like the supply chain disruptions due to the pandemic and the Saudi's deciding to cut oil production. There's no question that food manufacturers have raised prices to increase profits. No, those events cause price increases, not ...

"Inflation is the rate of increase in prices over a given period of time." Right, individual price increases is not 'inflation", but higher prices is like literally the definition of inflation. You don't get to just ignore why the price level is rising. I'm not. Businesses making price decisions on...

Everyone wants the highest price for their goods and services. Would you turn down an offered raise because you don't want to be "greedy"? Would you sell your house for less than the market value because because you don't want to be "greedy"? Of course not. Corporations certainly raise prices, and o...

A reminder: corporations do not cause inflation. Government monetary policy causes inflation, specifically the creation of new money from thin air. As Milton Friedman said, "Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon, in the sense that it is and can be produced only by a more rapid inc...

I also agree with DG that it seems crazy that a country that's trying to have its own space program, to develop nuclear power (or maybe nuclear weapons), is building all sorts of advanced drone weapons (that it's selling to Russia), is trying to develop domestic fighter jets, etc. is flying its VIPs...
